It's late am my time definitely time to hit the hay. Cheers, Mike. Please forgive me if you have already done this, but I take some thing literal and also see missing information as either a ploy or lack of execution Then you generally have to goto said folder and run the installer or Setup.
G'day Greybear, Sorry, v tired when I made the last post. Yes , files have been executed. The only one that didn't work was the VGA64 - guessing this is because of my graphics card.
Anyhow, I bit the bullet and took computer to local comp man today. He says he will check out the 'logs'. Should have word back tomorrow. Fingers crossed its good news. The funny thing was a couple of hours after dropping it off I got a call from a Microsoft Specialist saying he could remote control and have a look - timings everything :.
Regardless of the news Ill give you the findings ; hopefully so you can help others out. One thing I did not ask that would make a world of difference is were you Wired or Wireless?
IF it was Wireless, that was the issue. G'day GB, Answer: wired. Went and picked up computer today - mixed news. Discussions were had; the upshot being the problem lies in our network environment. So, I rang Netgear and explained. Two courses of action: first we refreshed the firmware, second we totally opened up the modem nat wise. Neither worked. So, I rang our ISP. The technician watched his data while a game was played.
First few minutes no dramas,, around the "wave" headed upwards. At disconnect. Played a second game and the same thing. Brilliant - a undeniable lead. It was explained to me that this "wave" showed that the network circuit was overloading.
Now we need to find out if its the ISP 's problem or the if the modem is locking up. I have a level 2 support from ISP ringing early tomorrow to further diagnose. As far as the modem goes - it's new with a capital N. It's firmware is original. Netgear have said that if the ISP is working as it should then the modem can be replaced. It could be that the modem, as great as it is, it just not cut out for gaming, or it could be just plain faulty. I'm sorry for wasting your time talking about drivers, updates, etc.
I'll let you know how it all goes - so at least that you may be able to help others with similar problems diagnose. Thanks for the update
