Pre-Algebra and Algebra. Bay Shore Middle School offers accelerated math for select students in grades 6 — 8. In both cases, students are selected based on multiple measures of criteria determined by Math Committees.
What are the criteria mentioned? There are two ways to participate in either advanced or accelerated math. The first way is by scoring a level 4 on the appropriate NYS grade level mathematics assessment. The second way enter the program is by meeting specific criteria based on multiple measures. The criteria used for placement are: 1 overall report card average of 4 quarters , 2 Spring i-Ready testing score and 3 End of the year Math in Focus Assessment.
What if my child does not meet the criteria? Meeting the stated criteria is the only way to enter the program. Student voice and leadership.

Throughout covid mathnasium has been flexible and allowed students to continue online. Amazing staff and clear curriculum make it a great addition to my daughters learning and growing. When she started she was below grade level in math, now she is at or above, but most importantly, loves math! Her confidence has grown and that has improved her grades in all subjects.

Liam is improving and has more confidence at school. The incentive structure provides continuing positive reinforcement for him. He, of course, loves to get candy but also looks forward to moving up to a new binder level, coming in on double stamp days and saving his stamps for bigger prizes. Recently, he was awarded the Student of the Month. That was huge for him! He has 2 siblings who maintain a 4.
Winning that award made him feel like he's smart too which he is! He's excited about sitting in the "special chair" and being recognized for his good attitude, work ethic and respectfulness. Whenever he gets in the "no errors club" his confidence soars even more. I think Mathnasium provides a great alternative to the mundane environment of a private tutor while still allowing for good teaching and solid foundation building.
Walking through the doors and working along side his peers who he knows need assistance too, helps to tamp down his anxiety and allow him to work on his math.
I'm grateful we found Mathnasium! February 5, Our daughter loves attending Mathnasium! They make learning fun and their reward program is very effective as it motivates her to work harder!
